Shaft Work

Shaft Construction:

Shafts are the doorways to the underground; its design and construction are key to the successful completion of any tunneling project. For each tunnel have two shafts (Launching & Receiving) to be constructed:

  • Launching shaft: mainly used to setup the tunneling equipment and consider as the starting point.
  • Receiving Shaft: used for machine head recovery upon the completion of crossing and consider as the end point.

The method of shafts construction depends in the different parameters such as:

  • Shaft diameter.
  • Shaft depth.
  • Ground nature.
  • Presence of the water table.

STCC has executed shafts in different methods in a high level of quality, the following are the methods of construction used to construct the shafts;

  • Sheet piles.
  • Cement block method.
  • Bored Cast-In-Situ Secant Piles.
  • Caisson/ Sinking Method.
